About Dedon
The German house that invented synthetic outdoor weaving as a discipline. Founded in 1990 in Lüneburg by Bobby Dekeyser, Dedon developed the proprietary Dedon Fiber, a hand-woven polyethylene tape engineered to behave like organic rattan but withstand UV, salt and frost, and built a 600-person hand-weaving workshop in Cebu, Philippines, to apply it on welded aluminum frames. The collaborations that followed (Sebastian Herkner, Toan Nguyen, Stephen Burks, Philippe Starck, Richard Frinier) turned outdoor furniture into a category of architectural objects rather than seasonal goods. The contemporary catalog spans deep-seat lounging, dining, daybeds, parasols and shade pavilions, all with the same warranty: ten years of warranty on the Fiber, lifetime on the frame. Inside the workshop
Every Dedon Fiber surface is hand-woven over a welded aluminum armature. The Cebu workshop trains weavers for six months before they touch production stock.
Dedon Fiber begins as a polyethylene resin compounded with UV stabilisers and proprietary pigments, extruded as a flat tape and spooled to the Cebu weavers in lots matched to a single frame. The frames themselves are welded in Lüneburg from marine-grade aluminum tube; they ship to the Philippines for weaving, then return to Germany for inspection and dispatch. The same workshop has produced every piece in the catalog since the first chair, there is no second-source supplier, no licensee. Ten-year warranty on the Fiber, lifetime warranty on the aluminum frame.
Commission a Dedon project
Every Dedon piece we quote is sourced through Dedon's German account, same warranty, same Fiber lot tracking, same hand-weaver who wove the showroom sample. The trade route changes how the order is placed, priced and supervised, not how it is made.
Sample boards ship from Lüneburg, finishes from Cebu. We open the file on first contact, hold the spec against the latest factory price list and supervise from purchase order to white-glove install.
Lead times move between eight and fourteen weeks depending on whether the spec touches the standard Fiber palette or a custom-spooled colorway.
