Dedon · Teak, woven fiber & cast-aluminum base

Mbrace Alu.

Sebastian Herkner's award-winning Mbrace, recast on a die-cast aluminum base. The same gesture of woven fiber embracing solid-teak side rails is retained, but the slab base lifts the silhouette off the ground, lightens the perceived mass and allows the colorways developed with Giulio Ridolfo to read more openly. Six pieces in the Alu sub-line: club chair, wing chair, lounge chair, armchair, footstool and a teak dining table that shares the surfboard plan-form of the original.

About the Mbrace Alu. collection by

The Mbrace Alu. outdoor sits within 's permanent outdoor catalog, a position has held as a European specialty outdoor house with established US trade representation. Mbrace Alu. is produced in specialty European outdoor materials matched to the brand's catalog tradition as part of 's premium European outdoor programme, with the configuration designed by 's in-house design team.

Material and construction notes

's outdoor pieces are built around specialty European outdoor materials matched to the brand's catalog tradition. For US trade specifiers, this means Mbrace Alu. carries the same material data sheets and US-trade documentation as the rest of the catalog: ASTM F1858 outdoor furniture compliance where applicable, fire-code classification on cushion components, and chain-of-shipment documentation supplied with the invoice. Bespoke fabric or finish substitutions are accepted on COM workflow with confirmed yardage at quote stage; see the Sunbrella and Outdura specifier reference for the workflow at the European factory.

Care, warranty, and US service life

Premium European outdoor pieces share a common care pattern: quarterly rinse with clean water and mild soap, twice-yearly inspection of cushions and fittings, and off-season storage of soft goods in freeze-thaw climates. Structural elements (aluminum, FSC teak, steel) typically carry 5-10 year warranties; fabrics and cushions 2-3 years against UV and stitching. US service life on European premium outdoor is typically 15-25 years on structural elements and 5-10 years on cushions, with COM refresh extending the cycle. Aftercare

How to care for Mbrace Alu.

A five-step protocol drawn from DEDON's care manual, adapted for American climate ranges.

  1. Rinse the woven fiber monthly

Soft hose stream is sufficient. DEDON Fiber is UV-stable and chloride-tolerant; monthly rinsing keeps pollen and dust from settling between the strands.

  2. Wipe the aluminum base clean

Die-cast aluminum accepts pH-neutral soap on a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive sponges, which can dull the textured powder finish. Touch-up paint is supplied with every order.

  3. Decide on the teak

Side rails silver in 6 to 9 months. To hold the original honey tone, apply DEDON Teak Care once at install and every spring. Most hospitality clients let the wood weather.

  4. Cushion off-season storage

Sunbrella cushion covers are removable and machine-washable cold; store flat in a dry location during winter months. Frame and fiber can be left outdoors year-round in zones 8 and above.

  5. Annual base inspection

The Alu base uses concealed hardware that can loosen with thermal expansion. A standard hex-key kit (supplied) handles tightening; full re-tension service is offered through the Boston office.

Mbrace Alu · FAQ

Specifying Mbrace Alu.

What is the difference between Mbrace and Mbrace Alu?

Mbrace (original) sits on four solid-teak legs that meet the ground; Mbrace Alu replaces them with a die-cast aluminum slab base. The silhouette is identical above the seat, but the Alu reads lighter and lifts the woven fiber off the floor for a more architectural presence.

Are the Pepper Multi colorways available year-round?

Yes. The Giulio Ridolfo colorways developed for Mbrace (Pepper, Marsala, Atlantic, Naturals) are stock-held in 12-piece batches. Bespoke colorways are available with 14–18 weeks lead-time and a 6-piece minimum.

Is Mbrace Alu suitable for coastal salt-air?

Yes. The aluminum base is marine-grade with epoxy primer; the fiber is UV-stable; teak side rails are naturally chloride-tolerant. See the Dedon archive →

Can the cushions be specified in COM?

Yes, with a 2-meter sample, outdoor double-rub rating ≥40,000, and 4-week added lead-time. COM cushions ship from the Cebu workshop alongside the frame.

Lead-time to the United States?

Stock colorways: 10–14 weeks. Bespoke: 14–18 weeks. Hospitality projects above 30 pieces are scheduled into dedicated production windows by the Boston distribution office.
