About the collection
Afra and Tobia Scarpa's Carlotta is part of the I Contemporanei programme, Cassina's living archive of pieces developed with contemporary designers in the Maestros' lineage. The collection translates the Scarpas' Venetian rationalism into outdoor furniture: a solid teak frame, low horizontal volumes and proportions taken from the duo's mid-century residential work. The range covers a lounge armchair and a matching coffee table, with the cushion set in Sunbrella over quick-dry foam.
Designer
Afra (1937–2011) and Tobia (born 1935) Scarpa are one of the defining husband-and-wife studios of Italian post-war design. Trained in Venice, they began their joint practice in 1960 and spent six decades collaborating with Cassina, B&B Italia, Knoll, Maxalto and Molteni. Their language combines Venetian woodcraft with industrial precision: solid timber frames, low slung proportions and a refusal of decorative flourish. Carlotta extends that vocabulary into outdoor furniture, sharing the structural restraint of their interior archive.
